GSN organized its inaugural Sepak 7.0 2012 7 a-side football tournament on the 23rd August. The tournament saw a good mix of 5 teams. A team even came all the way from Ipoh to participate in this tournament!
Teams began to arrive at the venue – SMK Sungai Nibong – at around 8am. The tournament began with an opening speech by GSN Director, Christopher Koh, welcoming the teams and to kick-off Sepak 7.0.
Participating teams were IpohBug, Vyperz FC, House of Hope, Firebrands A and Firebrands B.
The teams strutted their skills and team work. Thankfully, the weather was perfect. It drizzled a little in the morning but was clear and sunny after that. The tournament was run in round robin format with the top 2 teams playing in the final whereas the 3rd and 4th team playing for the bronze.
The 3rd placing match saw team Vyperz against Firebrands B. Vyperz showed their prowess as they beat Firebrands B to claim the bronze medal. On the other hand, the final match saw the team from Ipoh, IpohBug, playing against House of Hope, which comprises of the youth from the House of Hope Community Home. It was a nail-biting first half as House of Hope led the match 2-1. However, IpohBug did not throw in the towel just yet. They bounce back hard and strong as they scored 5 goals in the second half to claim the gold medal and the challenge trophy.
GSN would like to thank every team for participating in this year’s Sepak 7.0. Your presence at the tournament has made it really special. We would also like to thank all the volunteers and helpers for contributing in one way or another. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Goh, our generous sponsor.
We are looking forward to seeing you next year at Sepak 7.0 2013, at a bigger scale tournament and with stiffer competition among the participating teams.
Can IpohBug retain the Challenge Trophy?
